Jacobus Baas

Born in the Netherlands, Jacobus Baas grew up surrounded by the landscapes of the Dutch Masters. He was awarded the 2000 “Collection Choice Award” at the Plein Air Invitational, Laguna Art Museum and was the winner of the “Mayor’s Choice Award” at the Carmel Plein Air Competition.

Jacobus Baas takes a two-dimensional surface and gives it a feeling of space with carefully arranged brush strokes using the right color and values.

Artist’s Statement:

The act of applying paint to a canvas has always been intriguing to me. To transform a two-dimensional surface and give it a feeling of space with carefully arranged brush strokes using the right color and values is pure magic. Every time I paint on location with each brushstroke I experience that magic again and hopefully the viewer will experience it as well in the finished painting.
